Ant International, the Singapore-based fintech subsidiary of Ant Group, has partnered with Bank of China (Hong Kong) to enhance the cross-border capabilities of its businesses, including Alipay+, Bettr, and WorldFirst. Each unit will be impacted differently by the partnership, with a focus on expanding retail connectivity, developing blockchain integrations, and fund management services.

The partnership will see Bank of China (Hong Kong) integrate cross-border fund management solutions into the WorldFirst suite, accelerating clients’ international expansion efforts. WorldFirst, acquired by Ant Group in 2019, serves as Ant International’s global account service provider, offering small and medium-sized businesses a cross-border payments solution connected to over 220 markets.

Ant International and Bank of China (Hong Kong) will work together to develop a tailored suite of real-time cash flow management and investment solutions for Bettr, utilizing distributed ledger technology and tokenisation. This will increase global payment flexibility and settlement efficiency.

The two institutions will also combine Ant International’s AI technology with Bank of China (Hong Kong)’s foreign exchange pricing capabilities to create intelligent treasury solutions. Additionally, they will expand the connectivity of Ant International’s flagship platform Alipay+, which connects mobile wallets from different Asian markets to simplify international transactions.

With over 50 global mobile payment partners, the new partnership will see Bank of China (Hong Kong) enhance Alipay+’s Southeast Asian offering by deploying regionally focused accounts and settlement banking services. This will further simplify international transactions for users in the region.

Beyond Alipay+, Ant International and Bank of China (Hong Kong) have strengthened their connectivity in Hong Kong, allowing Bank of China (Hong Kong) customers to link their bank accounts and credit cards to AlipayHK for peer-to-peer transfers, payments, and top-ups.

The partnership is expected to drive customer engagement, with plans to launch joint marketing initiatives and exclusive privileges in the future.
