Revolut Launches AI Research Unit

Revolut, a digital banking giant, has launched Revolut Research, a new division within its AI department, to develop its in-house AI infrastructure. This move is part of the company’s effort to build its own proprietary framework, rather than relying on third-party software to power its AI services.

The new division will be led by Anton Repushko, who joined the bank in 2024 as a senior software development engineer. According to Pavel Nesterov, head of AI at Revolut, the division will enable engineering teams to deploy smarter features faster, eliminate systemic friction, and give customers a safer, radically better financial experience.

At launch, Revolut has revealed that the new unit will power PRAGMA, a new proprietary AI model that decodes financial trends, assesses real-time risk, powers platform operations, and delivers tailored product recommendations. Created in collaboration with Nvidia, PRAGMA will utilise the bank’s transaction data that stretches across 80 million customers based in more than 40 markets to create an engine which continuously learns from itself.

They have also deployed security models that review nearly one billion transactions every month to combat fraud, alongside models designed to enhance its in-app assistant AIR, which is currently available only in the UK. As its dataset grows, Revolut states that models powered by Revolut Research will become exponentially smarter at detecting fraud, evaluating risk, and predicting user needs.

Revolut shares that Revolut Research plans to regularly publish its scientific findings and open-source technical frameworks, while also taking part in international conferences to engage with the broader scientific community. The launch of the new AI unit comes amid Revolut’s regulatory push to expand its services internationally. In the past few months, the bank has secured full banking licences in the UK, France, and Australia.

As Revolut continues to expand its services internationally, the launch of Revolut Research and the development of PRAGMA are key steps in the company’s growth strategy. With its full banking licences in the UK, France, and Australia, Revolut is well-positioned to become a major player in the global banking industry.

It is clear that Revolut’s efforts to improve its AI capabilities will have a significant impact on the banking industry. The company’s commitment to AI research and development will enable it to provide better services to its customers and stay ahead of the competition. Journalists on the scene have reported that Revolut’s AI models are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and the company’s investment in AI research and development is expected to continue to pay off in the coming years.
