Cardiff Airport recorded a 3.60% delay rate over 60 minutes during September 30, 2025, to October 1, 2026.

Cardiff Airport achieved the lowest share of flights delayed by more than an hour among the UK’s 20 busiest airports during the past year, based on an analysis of data from September 30, 2025, to October 1, 2026. The airport in Wales saw only 3.60% of scheduled departures exceed a 60-minute delay over that period.

This result positioned Cardiff above major hubs such as London Heathrow, where 3.89% of flights faced delays of over an hour. The findings came from AirAdvisor, which examined all UK airports outside the Channel Islands. At the other end of the rankings, Manchester Airport recorded the highest delay rate at 7.73%, followed by Birmingham Airport (7.16%), Bournemouth Airport (6.99%), and Southampton Airport (6.94%).

Delays at Manchester were more than double those at Cardiff, demonstrating the Welsh airport’s efficiency in a crowded sector. For passengers, timely arrivals are critical when connecting to other flights or attending appointments, whether for professional or personal reasons.

AirAdvisor acknowledged that delays do not fully capture an airport’s dependability. External influences such as weather conditions, including strong winds or dense fog, frequently disrupt operations regardless of an airport’s efforts. The group also highlighted passenger rights under UK and EU rules. Under UK261, travelers delayed by more than three hours may receive compensation up to £520, depending on the flight distance and reason for the delay. Passengers can also claim reimbursement for meals, refreshments, or accommodation expenses if necessary.

The report also stressed that overall reliability extends beyond punctuality. Airports must effectively handle ground services, passenger movement, and infrastructure to sustain high standards. Cardiff’s performance in delay rates reflects its operational strengths, though broader reliability depends on these additional factors.

These enhancements align with broader industry trends toward streamlined procedures at mid-sized airports, where Cardiff operates.

For travelers, the data offers clear guidance on which airports consistently meet schedules. Those with tight connections or time-sensitive plans may prioritize destinations with proven reliability, such as Cardiff, when booking flights.
